BismilLah.  This suurah is warning against being distracted by wealth, status, and material competition from remembrance of ALLAH Azzawajal and the Hereafter. CONTEXT AND BACKGROUND OF REVELATION The suurah was revealed in Makkah, where Quraysh society was deeply involved in: Boasting about wealth, lineage, and numbers competing in status, children, followers, and possessions. Measuring success by material abundance. Some narrations mention that rival tribes would count their living members, and even go to graveyards to count the dead to prove superiority. Imaam al-Shafi'i may ALLAH be pleased with him said: “If people reflected deeply on this suurah alone, it would be sufficient for them.” Historical Context: Revealed in Makkah, when Muslims were few and under pressure. It addressed human heedlessness, reminding people that time is running out and must not be wasted. Early Muslims would recite this suurah to one another before parting, as a reminder of purpose. HISTORICAL CONTEXT:  Suurah Al-Humazah was revealed in Makkah, a society where: Social status was measured by wealth and lineage. The powerful people mocked the poor and weak people. Backbiting, name-calling, and humiliation were common. Wealth was seen as a guarantee of honour and security. Some scholars mention individuals like Umayyah ibn Khalaf or Al-Walīd ibn al-Mughīrah as examples, but the surah is universal, addressing anyone who displays these traits. Yaum Al-ithnayn, 16th day of Rajab, 1447AH, Momday, 5th January, 2026.  BismilLah.  Let's begin our studies of Suuratul Quraysh (Qur’an 106).  HISTORICAL CONTEXT. This suurah is directly connected to Suurah Al-Fīl (Qur'an 105). After ALLAH Azzawajal had destroyed Abraha and the army of the elephant, the Quraysh gained greater respect and safety among Arab tribes. Quraysh benefited from trade caravans: Winter → Yemen, Summer → Syria (Shām). Safety from attack. Steady food supply in a barren land 👉 ALLAH Azzawajal reminds them: These blessings did not come from idols or effort alone, they came from ALLAH Azzawajal.
