TAFSEER OF SURAH AL-MASAD (Qur’an 111), WITH CONTEXT, COMMENTARY, MEANINGS, and PRACTICAL LESSONS WE CAN APPLY IN OUR DAILY LIFE.
DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDER. Yaum al-ithnayn, 2nd day of Rajab, 1447AH, Monday, 22nd December, 2025. BismilLah.
Surah Al-Masad (also called Al-Lahab) is a Makkan surah revealed early in the mission of Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam. This surah is one of the miracles of the Qur’an as it contained live story that could have been challenged if the Qur'an was truly from ALLAH Azzawajal or not.
When the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam was commanded to publicly call his people to Islam, he gathered Quraysh at Mount Ṣafā and warned them of ALLAH’S punishment due to their idol worship. His uncle Abu Lahab responded with arrogance and hatred, saying:
“Tabban laka! (May you be ruined, destroyed, perish), Is this what you gathered us for?”
This surah was then revealed as a divine response, not merely condemning Abu Lahab as an individual alone, but exposing the fate of arrogance, hostility to truth, and misuse of wealth and influence. By the time we finish learning this surah, you will understand its miracle nature as Abu Lahab could have reverted to Islam throughout his almost 8 years of living after this surah to expose this surah to be false but because ALLAH Azzawajal knew that Abu Lahab would never become a Muslim till death, HE Azzawajal revealed this surah far earlier to justify that ALLAH Azzawajal is all knowing and all wise. Allahu Akbar. To be continued tomorrow in Shaa ALLAH. May ALLAH Azzawajal keep guiding and protecting us from any satanic influences. Aameen.
DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDER. Yaum athalaatha, 3rd day of Rajab, 1447AH, Tuesday, 23rd December, 2025. TAFSEER OF SURAH AL-MASAD (Qur’an 111). BismilLah.
Let's continue with our reminder yesterday. Tafseer of Qur’an 111.
Verse 1
“Perish the hands of Abu Lahab, and perish he!”
Meaning: A declaration of loss and destruction, both his actions (“hands”) and his very being. It shows that his efforts against Islam will fail.
Verse 2
“His wealth will not benefit him, nor what he earned.”
Meaning: Status, money, children, and power cannot save anyone from ALLAH’S judgment.
Verse 3
“He will burn in a Fire of blazing flame.”
Meaning: A clear warning of Hellfire as the consequence of persistent arrogance and rejection of truth.
Verse 4
“And his wife, the carrier of firewood,”
Meaning: His wife (Umm Jamīl) actively supported his hostility, spreading slander, planting thorns, and encouraging opposition. She is described as one who fuels the fire of hatred.
Verse 5
“Around her neck is a rope of twisted fiber.”
Meaning: A symbol of humiliation and punishment, matching her arrogance and cruelty in this world. To be continued tomorrow with some practical Lessons for Daily Life. Please check my status for the Commentary and deeper reflections of these verses. May ALLAH Azzawajal keep guiding and protecting us from any satanic influences. Aameen
DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDER. Yaum Arba'a, 4th day of Rajab, 1447AH, Wednesday, 24th December, 2025.
PRACTICAL LESSONS FROM SUURAH AL-MASAD FOR DAILY LIFE. BismilLah.
The following are some lessons from Qur'an 111 for our daily life.
1️⃣ Wealth Is a Test, Not a Guarantee. Money, business, or success cannot replace faith, humility, and good deeds.
Daily application:
Ask yourself: Is my wealth bringing me closer to ALLAH Azzawajal or making me arrogant?
2️⃣ Arrogance Destroys Good Deeds
Abu Lahab knew the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam personally yet pride blinded him.
Daily application:
Guard your heart from pride, especially when corrected or reminded of truth.
3️⃣ Beware of Supporting Wrong:
Umm Jamīl was punished for encouraging harm, gossip, and hatred.
Daily application:
Do not spread rumors, insults, or negativity, especially against righteous people or causes.
4️⃣ Actions Matter More Than Relationships: Being related to good people is not enough.
Daily application:
Focus on your own faith, prayers, and character, not family reputation alone.
5️⃣ ALLAH Azzawajal Defends HIS Truth. This surah reassures believers that ALLAH Azzawajal sees every injustice and will respond in HIS time.
Daily application:
Stay patient when mocked or opposed for doing what is right.
“Surah Al-Masad reminds us that no wealth, no name, and no status can save a heart filled with arrogance. Abu Lahab had everything the world could offer, yet he lost everything in the sight of ALLAH Azzawajal. Let us protect our hearts from pride, our tongues from harm, and our actions from opposing the truth. True success is not in what we own, but in who we are before ALLAH Azzawajal.” May ALLAH Azzawajal keep guiding and protecting us from any satanic influences. Aameen.
