THE DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDERS. Yaumul Jumuat, 27th day of Shăbaan, 1440, (Friday, 3rd May, 2019). COOKING FOR A HUSBAND WHO CHOOSES NOT TO FAST IN RAMADAN WITHOUT ANY REASON BUT STILL CLAIMS HE IS A MUSLIM WITHOUT PRAYING.
BismilLaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.
A wife do not owe the duty of cooking or serving food or drink to her spouse who does not fast during the days of Ramadhan, if he does so without having any valid reason (of sickness, or old age) that would excuse him from fasting. Since we are not allowed to condone or help someone who is doing a sin, by serving him foods and drinks, you are also guilty of a sin if you do so.
It is common knowledge in Islam that skipping fasts without valid reason of sickness, travelling difficulties due to old age, is considered a cardinal sin. If a husband does not have a valid excuses not to fast. The husband is guilty of even a graver sin by not praying; even greater than all of these is his denial of his obligation to pray while still considering himself to be a Muslim. If a Muslim denies his obligation to pray or fast, etc., he automatically goes out of the fold of Islam by such denial as such the marriage is considered nullified. There is a general consensus of scholars in Islam on this issue. Lots of sisters are facing this dilemma of having husbands who has stop praying, drink alcohol etc but still claim to be Muslims just to keep the wife serving him. A wife in such circumstances should not cook or serve such man food during the days of Ramadan. Same rule applies to wife who chooses to stop practicing. ALLAH knows best. Please remember today is Friday.
May ALLAH accept our dua and guide our misguided brothers and sisters from any satanic influences. Aameen.
